Fees & funding
Fees
Transparent fees, no surprises
We keep our fees clear and upfront, so there are no surprises. Before every appointment, you'll know exactly what you'll pay.
For most services there are three numbers worth understanding:
- Full fee — the upfront cost of your appointment.
- Medicare rebate — the amount Medicare pays back to you afterwards, as long as you have a valid GP referral.
- Out of pocket — what you're actually left to pay once the rebate comes back. This is the figure we show you below.
Telehealth and in-person appointments cost the same, so you're free to choose whichever suits you best. For telehealth, we take the full fee at the time of booking; for in-person appointments you pay on the day.
When you won't pay anything out-of-pocket
Some patients are fully covered, with nothing to pay out of pocket, when the right paperwork is in place. This applies to:
- ADF members with an approved referral
- DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs) patients
- Workers Compensation patients with an approved claim
- WentWest referrals
You'll find the fee breakdown for each service in the schedules below. If anything's unclear or you have questions about your costs, our team is happy to help.

Frequently asked questions
I'm a veteran / on workers compensation. How do I make sure I'm not charged?
Please ask your GP to include the relevant details in your referral letter. For DVA, your DVA number and for workers compensation, the insurer's name, claim number, and confirmation of approval.
With these details in your referral, we'll bill the third party directly and you'll have no out-of-pocket cost. If you're unsure whether your referral has everything we need, our reception team is happy to check before your appointment.
Why might my Medicare rebate be different from what is shown?
Medicare applies rules to how often certain items can be claimed. For example, Item 291 can typically only be claimed once every 12 months. If you've seen another psychiatrist recently, your rebate may be lower. We recommend confirming your eligibility with Medicare before your appointment by calling 132 011.
Do you bulk bill?
Mind Connections is a private practice and we do not routinely offer bulk billing. With a valid GP referral, Medicare rebates apply to most appointments, typically processed on the day and deposited into your bank account within 2–3 business days.
Patients referred under funded programs such as WentWest are not charged a fee, as costs are covered directly by the program. If you're experiencing financial hardship, please speak with your GP or our reception team about other options that may be available to you.
Can I claim a rebate without a referral?
No. A valid referral is required to claim any Medicare rebate for psychiatry or psychology.
Are telehealth and in-person fees the same?
Yes, our fees are identical for telehealth and in-person consultations of the equivalent Medicare item.
Questions about fees?
Our reception team is happy to talk through fees and rebates before you book.
