“My special interests include intellectual disability and mental health, ASD, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental conditions”

Dr Shama Parveen was trained in psychiatry in the United Kingdom, completing her core training in the West Midlands and her advanced specialist training at the South West London and St George’s Psychiatry Rotations, where she earned a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry. She worked as a consultant psychiatrist within the UK National Health Service for three years before migrating to Australia in 2021, and was admitted as a Fellow of RANZCP 2023.

Dr Parveen’s practice focuses on mental illness in people with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, adult ADHD, depression, anxiety, psychosis, and bipolar affective disorder.

She is currently a Staff Specialist Psychiatrist with the Intellectual Disability Mental Health team at Northern Sydney Local Health District, and a RANZCP-accredited trainer for psychiatry registrars. Dr Parveen is committed to advocacy for people with intellectual disability and other neurodevelopmental conditions, and brings subspecialty expertise to a population often under-served in mainstream mental health care.
